New York: West Indies opener Brandon King has been ruled out of the remaining matches of the T20 World Cup due to a side strain injury. West Indies Cricket has included left-handed batsman Kyle Mayers in the team in his place. Brandon King was injured during the match against England.
The ICC said in a statement that the Event Technical Committee of the current T20 World Cup 2024 has approved the inclusion of left-handed batsman Kyle Mayers in the West Indies team in place of Brandon King. Mayers is expected to join the team on Saturday.
Injured against England
West Indies faced England in their first match of Super-8. King was playing after scoring 23 runs off 12 balls. On the second ball of the fifth over, he got injured while playing a shot towards mid-off off Sam Curran. After this he left the field and did not come to bat again.
Such has been Myers’ T20I career
Kyle Mayers has played 37 T20I matches so far. During this, he has scored 727 runs at an average of 21.38. The left-handed player has a strike rate of 140.38 and has so far scored three half-centuries in the shortest format of T20. Mayers was part of the West Indies team in the T20 series played against South Africa before the T20 World Cup.
